Sending to Apple Private Email Relay

When users sign in to your website or mobile app using Sign in with Apple, they may choose the “Hide My Email” option. Apple generates an anonymous alias ending in @privaterelay.appleid.com.

The Requirement: Registering Your Outbound Domain

Apple enforces strict authentication on all incoming emails addressed to @privaterelay.appleid.com. If your sending domain and email addresses are not explicitly registered in your Apple Developer portal, Apple will silently drop or bounce the messages with a 550 5.1.1 error.

Setup Steps

  1. Log into your Apple Developer Account.
  2. Navigate to Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles > More > Sign in with Apple.
  3. Under Email Sources, click the + icon.
  4. Add your Mailofly sending domain (e.g. mail.yourdomain.com).
  5. Apple will verify that SPF or DKIM DNS records match. Since your domain is already verified in Mailofly, Apple’s check will succeed.
  6. Once registered, emails sent from your domain to Apple Private Relay addresses will be accepted and forwarded to the user’s real Apple ID email.
