# Writing on Profile Cards

> Automatically edit details, notes, and plan levels on a contact's profile card.

# Writing on Profile Cards (Update Contact)

Every contact in your Mailofly Audience has their own digital **Profile Card** in your filing cabinet.

It keeps track of their name, email, subscription status, and any custom notes you want to jot down (like what tier they bought or how many points they have).

**The Profile Card Pen (Update Contact)** lets your automation write new notes on their card automatically!

## What Notes Can You Write?

You can update almost anything on a contact's card:

* **Basic Details**: Change their first name, last name, or team nickname.
* **Custom Notes**: Update values like:
  * `tier`: Change from `"free"` to `"hero"`
  * `onboarding_status`: Set to `"completed"`
  * `stars_earned`: Add `50`
* **Subscription State**: Mark them as subscribed or unsubscribed.

## Writing Fixed vs Dynamic Notes

* **Fixed Note**: Write the exact same word every time (e.g. `status = "pro"`).
* **Dynamic Note**: Pull a word right out of the signal's goodie backpack (e.g. `favorite_fruit = {{payload.fruit}}`).

As soon as a contact rolls through this station, Mailofly updates their card in your audience database instantly.

## Real Life Example: Tracking Game Progress

1. **Trigger**: `level_completed`
2. **Profile Card Pen**: Write `current_level = 5` and `last_played = {{payload.date}}`.
3. **Send Email**: Deliver their Level 5 Trophy to their inbox!
